Hi everyone,

Im very new to this forum and stumble on threads from here trying to troubleshoot, so im sorry if this was covered but I couldnt find a thread that covers the symptoms I have.

I bought this camera a week ago and have only shot on 35mm film cameras for the last 6 months.

The body is the RB67 Professional with a regular back, no the PRO S or PRO SD that I see referenced in other threads.

Issue: I am able to cock the shutter and fire it when I am in landscape mode, however I cannot fire the shutter in portrait mode.

  • Made sure the dark slide was not in
  • Disassembled the setup to cock and fire the shutter without the back on
  • Tried to attach a back without film inserted, still would not fire
  • Made sure multi exposure mode was not on
Some thoughts I have, noticed the locks are quite "sticky" and require cleaning and relubing.
Is this the problem?

I just need some guidance what information you guys suggest I give or pictures that might help.

Thanks for reading guys.

Regards,

Hello raduroachu, welcome to the site! There are a lot of good resources on the site, and many helpful people.

It sounds like a problem with either the revolving adapter.

You said you dissembled the setup to cock and fire the shutter without the back on. Was this successful?

Be 100% sure that the back and revolving adapter are fully seated in the portrait position. A slight out of position can block the camera from firing, because it thinks the back is not ready.

Remove the lens for the following tests, to isolate function of the body, revolving adapter and back.

Rotate the back into portrait position, then remove the back. Cock and fire the body. Is this possible?

Remove the back, and the revolving adapter. Can you cock and fire the body?

With the back and the revolving adapter removed, notice in the upper left and right corners on the rear of the camera, small levers that jump out when the body is fired. These levers signal, through he revolving adapter, the back the the body has fired. The levers need to function correctly and without sticking. Sometimes the levers get bent or loose.

With the back removed, and the revolving adapter installed, notice that a pin in the upper right of the rear of the revolving adapter, in landscape mode, jumps out when the body is fired. This pin needs to move freely and without sticking. Sometimes the pin is bent.

Thanks for your feedback!

I will try out your suggestions and I can post a video to demo these trials.

Its been tooooo many years since I had a RB67 to be of much help. The instruction manual can be downloaded here: http://www.cameramanuals.org/mamiya_pdf/mamiya_rb67_professional.pdf
Download the RB67 Pro S service manual here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1015573/Mamiya-Rb-67-Pro-S.html
There will be minor differences between the Pro and Pro S, usually lockouts/refinements, but it will provide a very good reference to tackle your problem(s) with.
CRC QD Contact Cleaner https://www.homedepot.com/p/CRC-11-oz-QD-Electronic-Cleaner-05103/205021975 is one of the best in the market. Use it or 90% Isopropyl Alochol to clean parts with.
DeToxitit is another cleaner recommended by other members. https://www.amazon.com/DeOxit-Clean...0&sr=8-9&keywords=contact+cleaner+electronics
