RB67 Light Seals

I noticed that the light seals on my RB67 pro-s may be deteriorating. Is this easy to do yourself and where to get the seals. If it is something better done at shop who offers this.

Very easy. Can't remember who sells them, but have a look on utube. Awesome video of them being made and a link to seller. Just google it.

Contact Jon Goodman. He's a member on this forum. I've purchased several RB and nikon seal kits from him. They are always perfect.

I cut most of my own from foam sheets I bought at Michael's crafts. I've heard nothing but good things about Goodman's kits though.

+1 on Jon Goodmans kits. Just ordered kits for my RB67's and backs. Used several of his kits for Pentax's, Minolta's, and Yashica. He'll send you detailed instructions and he is a member here too.

I've found the perfect replacement foam, a couple dollars would be enough to do MANY bodies and backs.

I found it at Joann's Fabrics (a large retail arts/crafts store. It is a sticky back black foam sheet 2mm thick.

The actual name is "Foamies Foam Sheets" made by Darice.

I use Jon Goodman's seal kits on my RB and all my other equipment. His service and printed instructions are first rate. No light leaks.

Ask Jon for all 3 kits for the RB67.
1. Mirror kit
2. Rotating back kit
3. Film back. Specify 120 or 220 back. If you have a 120 back in 6x4.5 format it will be the same as a standard 6x7 back.

I just did one of my RB67's with Jon Goodmans kits and did my first test roll. Excellent results. On your rotating back, make sure the 4 screws on the side that the film back attaches to are tight. I had a slight light leak when rotating the back and found that I missed checking those screws.

I would say yes. You've been fortunate to not have an issue. I suppose some cameras are more susceptible to issues with light leaks than others. I can attest that the rotating back seals are critical as my RB67 did have some fogging from a light leak there.

The back door for the RB film holder has a turned edge which fits into a groove on the insert so deteriorated seals don't mean an instant light-leak...EXCEPT for the seal that protects the hinge. There is no flange and groove system here so raw daylight is kept out only by the integrity of the foam seal.

It is my understanding the seal kits are not needed or used on the ProSD.....except mirror area maybe?

I've been using a ProSD for eons and never once had a light leak show on film.......knock on wood.....or maybe I've just been lucky.

If there is a requirement for seals to be changed on the ProSD please advise.....thank you.

Mine are just the Pro. I do see the seals are worn along the hinge. What can I stick in there to make it better?

If you're going to spend the time to fix it, do it right , get a seal kit. By using the proper seal kit you have a much better chance for good longevity and no worries about the material degrading and falling apart all over your film. Contact Jon Goodman he is a member here and great to work with. The seal kits don't cost much, they have full instructions with pictures.
