I just got done replacing the light seals in my RB67 Pro S and Pro S 120 film back. I ordered the seals from a guy who laser cuts these here in Japan. I know you can do your own, but the sheer convenience of having self-adhesive, precision cut ready-to-install seals at $16 is a total bargain to me. The materiel also seems top notch.

I used lighter fluid and some carved down disposable chopsticks to dig the old gunk out first. Then, wiped the areas down and blasted with canned air. Lastly, carefully applied the pre-cut foam pieces.

There were only a couple of hitches. The guy told me that the kit would work for a Pro S, but one of the seals seems designed probably for the original 120 film backs. I had to cut that part from the remaining foam. The other thing was that a couple of seals were a little too long, but nothing a razor couldn't solve.

Now all is sealed and no more gunky old sticky foam. The camera operates a bit quieter and smoother as well as being light-tight.

What have you used to re-seal your RB?

Not a kit for just the reasons mentioned. Adhesive-backed craft store foam, a steel ruler and an Xacto did the trick for me for about a buck. Like you, I used pared-down hashi(popsicle stix work, too) and isopropyl to clean out the black guacamole. Didn't touch anything inside the body since internal seals/bumpers were fine. The mating surface between the adapter and back and the hinge seals in the back are all that needed some love on the NOS Pro S backs I got awhile ago. Not a huge chore however you choose to do it.

Congratulations! It's always a real treat to DIY n have posative results. The mirror bumpers make all the difference in the world, they reduce the vibrations n make it feel like a brand new camera.

Enjoy n may you burn lots of film.

I re-sealed a Pro-S 120 back a little over a year ago using a kit and it worked great (my RB67 Pro-S camera body came to me with new light seals). I just bought another Pro-S 120 back and adapter and both need re-sealing. I ordered a kit from the company in Japan for $16 shipped to my door.

I haven't started mining the goop out of my "new" magazine yet, but will probably get to it this weekend.

It's going to be great having another film choice loaded and ready to go!!! There have been too many times i wanted whatever film wasn't already loaded. Now, a simple light-seal replacement is all that stands in the way.
