I need help. I posted this on an old thread, but wanted to start a new one in case one of you RB experts didn't see it.

My RB is acting up. I wasted a lot of travel and effort (and money) on two rolls that I'm pretty sure are going to be blank. My mirror will cock and fire, but the rear flap does not come up. It is also not firing the shutter in either of my lenses. I did not notice at first, because it sounds mostly normal (the shutter is quiet), and I was in a loud place. But when I looked at the lens as I pressed the shutter release, the lens was not firing. If I cock and fire the lenses manually (not mounted), they both fire correctly.

Looking closer, I can see that when the body fires, the mounting ring that normally turns counter-clockwise to fire the lens is not going all the way. I have attached a photo of the front of the body after it has been fired. I'm pretty sure those two holes that engage the lens should now be further around when in passive (non-cocked, after firing) position.

Matt had told me to make sure that my lenses were not in mirror lockup position, and they are not.

If anyone knows if this can be easily fixed by a total novice like me, please let me know.

Yes you are correct it should move all the way round.

Sorry I cannot help you with a repair I have to send my gear to professionals for repair and servicing.

Looking at your photo, the hole on the right side of the cocking ring should be 68 degrees from the top of the ring when the shutter has been fired and 108 degrees from the top when the shutter is cocked. Your photo shows the hole around 90 degrees after the shutter has been released. Could be several issues, most likely needs to be resolved by removing the wind side cover to inspect the wind gearing. There is an adjustment under the front cover but with the large difference from specs, I don't think this is an adjustment issue. Most likely a damaged or loose gear in the wind system. I would not recommend taking on this repair if you don't have the experience in the RB system. Although it is not extremely complicated, getting it all back to specs can be frustrating without the experience and proper Mamiya tools. I'd recommend you take it to a repair shop that has experience in the camera.

Thanks, Bill. That's what I was afraid of. I don't have the skill to fix anything that isn't exceptionally simple. I will call around. I have a local shop, but I don't know if they work on these.
