RB67 Lens Repair

I got a hold of a 180mm lens for an RB 67 with a pile of other gear I bought about a year ago. When you release the shutter on the camera, the blades close inside the lens, but they don't open back up once the mirror is lifted out of the way.

Do you think it's something broken inside where new parts are needed, or something that needs cleaning? Shutter speeds all sound good, the blades just don't open and close.

Any idea where a guy could find any direction on disassembling one of these babies? I'd hate to see a little spring shoot out and have no idea where it goes.

Mamiya uses Seiko shutters. Check http://www.butkus.org/chinon/ as he has one service manual for Seiko shutters under Mamiya. They are fairly standard and straight forward. The hardest part will be figuring out how to remove the lens elements and barrel from the shutter first. Search engine Mamiya Service Manuals .

which lens is it... non-c, c, ... etc? a pic?

It's a non C. I don't have it with me at the moment, but I can post a pic of the front tomorrow.

no pic needed. the front cell unscrews like a lightbulb. you get access to the shutter from the top down. youll see 3 or 4 screws to take the first layer off. then anothe 3 or 4 screws.

turn the lens over n remove tge retainer ring. the barrel should release from the shutter mount.

the shutter is held in the mount by 4 screws from the side. the mirror up sprng is one. the ends of tge preview slider and one more nearby.

now you are holding the shutter in your hand ready to be cleaned.

just a word... get a weekly pill organizer to put the screws in by each operation. the slight differences in screws is important when replacing them in the reverse order they came out. to help you, take pictures as you go so you can reference in case you get lost.

I had a similar issue with my "C" 180. Sent to KEH for CLA and just got it back. Tested it the other day and all is well now.........

Thanks for all the help guys. I actually decided I didn't want to spend the time on it. Traded with a guy who was more keen on diving into the repair for a bunch of film.
