RB 67 frame spacing and overexposure "overspill"

I put two rolls thru my new rb today, checking for light leaks in the two backs, spacng, and genreal operation. On both backs there is at least 50% more space between frames 3 and 4. Also on frames where i overexposed severally there is exposure bleed between the frames.

Is this common when over exposed 4 stops too long? And anybody know about spacing for 3 and 4?

How old is your "new" RB? What model is it (Pro, Pro S, Pro SD)? I have a Pro SD with 3 Pro SD magazines and have never had this problem, however it seems to be systematic to the two magazines you have. Slightly excessive spacing between two frames is of course a problem that is easy to live with, while 4 stops overexposure is not going to give the best quality and is also an easy problem to fix. Did you use a lens hood for the shots wth the bleed? This could well help stop light bouncing off the inside walls of the camera and reaching the film from an odd angle.

Rb67 pro .

No i didnt use the hood. I was in the shade and the sun was on the other side a building behdind me. The overexposure was because i misread the spot meters display, first time using that one and i thougt the last "0" was a fraction for 1/50th on the dot, when it was 1/500th. Stuff i did in the studio was fine on the same back. But i find it weird that both have extra space on just between frame 3 and 4. It was a bit chily and i didnt think things thru. I just got this a few weeks ago and havent had much time to play.

I would bear in mind that your camera is at least 33 years old and therefore has earned the right to be a little idiosynchratic. If the lenses are not the C type, they will be single coated and probably could use the help of a hood.

Wrong frame spacing between 3 and 4 definitely calls for a repair, methinks. It would probably be cheaper to buy a new back altogether.

All other frames are equaly spaced, and its on both. Im thinking it might be a 'feature' of early 70's design. Or they might have commons flaws that develop. Im gonna take the whole kit in for a shutter / fstop testing, and CLA anyway.

I have a ProS and two ProS backs. I've noticed uneven spacing before, but nothing that would cause me alarm. I've never noticed whether it was always between certain frames or just random.

Probably not much help, but there you have it...
