Okay - so it's a WEE bit dated now... but I'm wondering who here has had exposure to this AMAZING book from the 70s...?

I pretty much was weaned, photographically speaking, on the thing... I've never found a book or resource to equal it, really. It was inspired by Stewart Brand, of course (see: the Whole Earth Catalog) - and they did an admirable job! Amazing depth, breadth and overall sense of humour about it all. I especially liked the bit on 'alternative uses of sulfite cookies' under the Polaroid Type 55 Section! Very funny.

A year ago someone gave me a copy of this, it's funny reading the interviews of famous photographers giving tips on how to break in to the photography market. Basically they all say in so many words, so sorry, all the good gigs are taken, the competition is astronomical, and magazines etc,... do not budget for artistic developement etc,... basically the free reign of expression and choice assignments became non existent in the 70's. I wish I had given up the illusion of making a career in photography at the outset. Because most people I see making a living doing photography took up photography to make a living, not because they couldn't live with out it.

I recently ran across my copy in a box in the garage. Haven't had a chance to thumb through it. Nice relic of a bygone era. I seem to remember more about having the book than what was in it.
