I wonder if/where Warhol said that, or if it's the writer's idea. Might be logical within Warhol's self-contained world, or perhaps within some tribal society that had no other background with photographs.

"His date" is definitely is is manufactured reality which a tribe he created. Warhol was way ahead of his time creating fame with famous people. Some of his art is hard to understand back then. Now self-promotion, fame is standard behavior today. I think in part, Warhol created a culture that lives on today and it's not stoppable. Especially in the age of social media. Our president is a prime example.
