Just another item that someone with more money than sense can lock in a vault and occasionally fawn over, it's just a camera not a devotional object.

Well, it's a beauty. I had never heard who'd designed the exterior of the F before (Yasaku Kamekura), so that was a nice piece of information to pick up. If he's still with us, he should be proud of his achievement.

Change to titanium soon after commercial production began? My F has a cloth shutter and my father bought it new in 1974...

Funny, today I looked at a black Nikon F, serial number 640050, and the price was 245k less. I suppose I'll have to go back and buy it before someone else does.

I like the way they stuck this sentence in the article, just to discourage burglars . . .

"For security reasons, the camera is being held in a safe at a bank, and not at Grays of Westminster in Pimlico."

It's essentially a prototype. Think of a pre-production Lamborghini Miura. Well, maybe not; the F was more like a Mustang. Actually, that doesn't quite work either. Never mind.

I would have to say, if I were gifted this camera, I'd be sorely tempted to run a roll of film through.

If I had £ 250,000 to spare I would spend it on my wife and children not a ******* camera, I have enough already.

I don't think the "Blue Book" price has anything to do with the price that equipment fanatics will pay Ron that want to own this type of thing, they want it at all cost rationality has already flown out of the window.

Oh, I agree, but then from my POV (and that of many of us) this is madness to pay so much for this camera.

I find it sad, actually. Last year when I was in Japan, my local dealers couldn't GIVE Nikon Fs away. The Photomic models especially, were like poison ivy. Only for $50 would one sell.
