Has anyone used this lens for macro work? I have heard that this is an oscilloscope lens and that it has poor macro proformance. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It IS an oscilloscope lens. It is not good for anything else but a paperweight. Although if you've just received a grant to shoot squiggly green lines on polaroid 3000, you might be able to do something with it.

Tis a persistent legend it covers 4x5 ....

Yup... paperweight, though some were in pretty good shutters.

Not a chance in hell at 4x5. Not 3x4, not 2x3. I've tried. Something about a 1.9 max aperture is tempting. As long as it doesn't need to be in focus. Perhaps if you had a 35mm back for your view camera.

It IS a nice shutter Alpa I believe.
