Probably a (very) silly question, but if my rangefinder has been knocked out of alignment, can I just focus by guestimation, and using the distance figures marked up on the lens ?

If the lens is wide angle, f/5.6 or smaller at the closest distance that has infinity sharp can work. Then you don't even have to focus, unless your subject is extremely close. Sometimes lenses have markings for this setting.

Absolutely, if you are good at guessing distance.

Assuming that the distance figures are okay - I'd do some film tests on measured distances first before relying on them.
The bump that knocked the rangefinder off may have caused other problems.

I have a Fuji G617, no rangefinder 105mm f8 lens. It's marked in meters which I have to remind myself self of. I get sharp negatives and transparencies.

Thank you for your responses. Glad to see that age has not made me completely stupid !!
Having started in photography with a rangefinder free camera I'll be reliving my past.
