I stumbled onto this on YouTube last night. I'm not a big fan of Gibson's photographs, but he's interesting to listen to.

Yeah.......... i would be much more interested in seeing the stuff he shot during those 3 years in The Navy

Thanks for posting the link. I’ve listened to Ralph Gibson a number of times and the narrative is basically the same - well we would expect it I suppose given it’s his journey - and it sounds genuine. Personally I’m a fan of his work, but I don’t think I could copy his style, even if I tried. I do however like the idea of shooting everything at 1 metre, I’ve not heard him say that before.

I’d like to know how he achieve such strong blacks and whites, seems to be no compromise.

I like Ralph Gibson's work. It was a foregone conclusion that he would be admitted to the Leica Hall of Fame.

Steve@f8, find a copy of the book "Darkroom", published c.1980 by Lustrum Press, Gibson's own imprint. All you need to know is illustrated there- along with the practice of many 20th-century photographers.

Thanks, I’ll have a look.
