Quickload in Polaroid 545 holder

In the past I have used standard film holders in my 4x5. I also have a Polaroid 545 holder. I recall reading somewhere that Fuji Quickload film can be used successfully in the Polaroid 545, thus avoiding the necessity of purchasing a separate Quickload holder. [Or it could be that I read that it doesn't work. I don't know if my memory or eyesight is deteriorating more quickly!]

I'm sure one of you experienced folks can advise which is correct.

Both Kodak Readyloads and Fuji Quickloads will work in the Polaroid holder. You just need to use it differently with these films. When unloading push the sleeve back down and depress the plunger manually to release the film instead of throwing the arm over to the process position, then grip the sleeve firmly and pull it out.

In the past there were some complaints about tha Quickload/Readyload films flatness when inserted in the Polaroid holder, but I never had such problem...on the other hand I have to say that the Quickload holder is much more lighter than the 545, I prefer to carry the Quickload when I'm backpacking...

The 545 is indeed much heavier and a more "industrial" design, but I have had much less problems with light leaks, film flatness, and just plain "duds" using the Polaroid. With Kodak Readyload film, it's a no-brainer--just one plunger to remember. I was 35 for 35 on my last outing.I could never do that with the Readyload holder.

I have always considered the Polroid older to be the universal holder for the pre-loded films (Kodak, Fuji and Polaroid.) It orks well with all three.

WRT film flatness when using the Polaroid holder. It is true, but depending on you use it may or may not be a concern.

I've used my Polaroid holder with Ready Loads and Quick Loads for years and never noticed a flatness/sharpness problem. It wasn't until I used it to shoot an archetictural subject with strong vertical lines that I noticed a slight problem.

The lines were not perfectly straight, they had a slight curvature in the center, where the film bowed. Everything is sharp, but the film wasn't truly flat.

I rarely shoot wide open, so at f22 there's sufficient depth of sharpness to produce a sharp neg/tranny even though the film isn't perfectly flat. Whether this is a concer to you, depends on your subjects and shooting style.
