I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread...so...I have a 12" Ilex Acutar in a number 4 shutter, but my cable release doesn't quite work to release it all the time. Is there one with a longer end piece that would work better?
If I'm not being specific enough please let me know, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks
There's a Gepe release with a long throw, but the real problem is that the shutter is out of adjustment. With use, the internal lever on these shutters migrates, requiring a progressively longer and longer cable release throw. When properly adjusted, just about any normal cable release will fire even a self-cocking Ilex 5 shutter.
The relatively wide variety of inexpensive imported cable releases normally sold in local camera stores seem to have a wide tolerance of length of extension. You should take your lens/shutter to the camera store and try out various models until you find one that will work. Most cable releases are in blister or bubble packs that allow for removal and replacement of the product without damage to the packaging.
While I agree with previous posts about the shutter getting progressively more "out of adjustment" in regards length of cable release extension to trigger it, the fact is that many of the larger older shutters "do" require a longer throw to the release than medium-format and 35mm format cameras do.
