Using a 500 ml tank as an example, is it possible to use the following:

10ml + 20ml + 500ml

With 2 rolls of 135-36 as a way of overcoming the 500ml minimum per roll?

(Normally it would be 5 + 10 + 500)

Or will it totally backfire and crap out on me?

The critical factor is always the minimum amount of developing agents, rather than the dilution. But by doubling them you're over coming that problem but will affect the development time.

As a rough guide I use Pyrocat HD 1+1+100 for 120 & 5x4 for 15mins @ 20°C but double the strength to 2+2+100 9-10 minutes @ 20°C for dish processing 10x8's.

So yes it works but you need to find the best dev time.

Well you'll have more developing agent per mol of water then you'll need -

so I imagine that you'll end up wasting developer and/or possibly decreasing development time and increasing stain density.

Try it and find out....
