The ratio of molecular weights is 1.27.

Phenidone (162.2) Dimezone S (206.2)

I don't know if this is exactly equivalent in activity though. One person on pure-silver tested and found that he thought that it wasn't quite equivalent. But another said it was about right. It's probably near enough.

Hey, thanks, I was in the midst of mixing up some paper dev and found I was very low on regular Pheindone but was rich in Dimezone S, so I went with 1.6 and it seems about correct. When I was done I did a search and yes, everybody seems to think is from 1.2 to 1.6. I had a post with Photo Engineer and I asked him and I seem to recall it was 1.6 but I can't find the post.

Ok, so what would it be for .3 g of Phenidone? I used .5 which is as accurate as my scale goes.

Does it really matter? I mean, it's a print developer, right? If you're pleased with the results, why worry? I'd understand being pedantic with film developers, but not with paper developers. In any case, if you do the same "error" the next time, you'll get repeatable results.

Good point, especially since the developer is for RC contact sheets, but I also use another formula for Fiber prints, and Dimezone S does dissolve much easier. Could I alter the Ph to boost the activity to get it to Pheidone?

This is not a correct equivalence as the activities differ.

Good luck.

PE

Is there a rule of thumb for adjusting for equivalence? Or is it more complicated? I did read that the difference in opinion between two experimenters on pure-silver was explained away by their vastly different developer concentrations (one a full strength Microphen type, and the other a highly dilute one iirc).
