Can I add potassium alum to an alkaline film fixer I make up and essentially not change it's alkaline nature? I am trying to avoid scratching negatives. I do not use acid anything in my chemistry. Thanking you in advance.

You cannot add Potassium Alum to an alkaline fix. It will form a white precipitate which will ruin the fixer in most cases.
