Questions re Mamiya 645 1000S.....

I just shot my first roll of film with the 1000S (film is out for processing) and have a few questions:
1. Shot a roll of 120 (TMax 100) expecting to get 15 pictures; I think it ran out at 12. How many frames should one actually get (last roll film that I shot was in a Brownie Hawkeye)?
2. If you are facing the front of the 1000S, there is a small lever (left side, roughly center) that appears to interact with the lens; what does this do?
3. Again facing front, there is a knob/lever on the lower right front corner of the body; I assume that this is the self timer. Am I correct and if so, how long does it run (I assume that you just flip it)? I have two 645 manuals that don't account for either of these controls.
4. Something that I read leads me to believe that generic cable releases won't work with this body;if this is the case, do you have to hunt down a Mamiya cable release? I have a power winder that looks like it takes a different size cable release, but don't want to have to use that all the time.

P.S. you are right - you should get 15 exposures from each roll of 120. I would check carefully that you are loading film into the insert correctly.

From look at the manual the left lever dof and the right lever is the self timer do not know how long though

Been a while since I have used a 100s, but here is what I recall from using it.

1. Yes, 15 shots should be what you get. Did you notice what the film counter did? This does not work like 35mm, you just wind on and it should stop at 1. You don't trigger the shutter to make that happen.

2. Depth of field preview. Stops down the lens so you can see in the viewfinder what the depth of field will be for your chosen aperture.

3. Yep, self timer. No idea how long. I suggest you test it with no film in the camera to see.

4. A standard cable release should screw into the middle of the shutter release button on the bottom front of the camera. There is another shutter release which does not take a cable, just the front one.

Thanks for the heads up on the 1000S manual;should have looked there first. I assume that the film question is probably the result of pilot error.

1. You should get 15 frames on 120 and 30 frames on 220. It seems like you should get 16 and 32, like with higher end 645s, but you do not.
2. That is the D of F preview lever. It momentarily stops down the lens to the selected aperture, as opposed to the manual/automatic lever on the lens, which will keep the aperture stopped down without having to hold anything.
3. Yes. It is the timer. To find out how long it runs, just run it. It's pretty standard; perhaps 7 seconds. You cock it with the big lever, and release it with the small lever.
4. It takes a plain-ol' cable release on the lower shutter release.

FYI, the sub-1000S models do not have 2 and 3 (nor do they have a '1000 shutter speed or the interlock for changing shutter speeds).

When I had my 1000s I did get 16 frames per roll. It was a great camera, I'm sorry I sold it.

I only ever got 15 exposures witha .amiya charger in my M645j but, yes, you should definitely be getting more than 12.
