Questions about RB67 and pola back

Hi

I have a RB67, and I would like to use Fuji instant films in Black and White.

My question is the following: are fuji films compatibles with pola backs?

Dear Aurelien,

Fuji makes two types of peel apart type instant films.
One is 4 X 5 inch size, another is smaller 8.5 X 10.8 cm size.
What I understand Fuji B&W instant are FP-100B, FP-400B, FP-3000B for 8.5 X 10.8 cm size and these can be used with the RBSD.
(I don't have the original RB67 but the above Fuji instant should be compatible with the Polaloid one)
The FP-100B45, FP-500B45, FP-3000B45 are 4 X 5 size and cannot be used with the RB.
Indeed I have a RB67SD with two Mamiya genuine RBSD Polaloid backs which is actually made by Polaloid UK and modified in Japan and the above films are compatible with the Fuji instant (the manual for the Mamiya genuine Pola backs also stipulates that one can use Fuji instant).
For instant film (I only use color instant film Fuji FP-100C), I only use Fuji instant film with my RB67SD.

Peel apart means that you have a negative and a positive? I am right?

Dear Aurelien,

I think you are imagining the type of instant film that can have both positive image on the paper and the one that you can obtain film that can be used to print as a “normal” negative film.

If so, no.

There was such a instant B&W film offered by Polaroid (the film part of such film must be treated afterwards, I don’t think Polaroid makes such films any more, correct me if I am wrong), but Fuji have never made such type of peel apart instant film (it will peel apart film and paper but film part will be unusable).

That is partly right but there is only one type of film which gives you a useable negative and that is 665

The 665 negative needs a clearing bath (a bit like a fixer). Also slightly different exposures are needed for a good positive or a good negative.

This film has been discontinued and only the larger 5x4 version of it (Type 55) remains. Recent news however says that Polaroid is stopping all production so you will be left with just Fuji films to use.

Do you want to see my terrible photo taken with the Fuji FP-100C & RB67SD?
I am a very casual picture taker not approaching to APUG member levels.
A subject that never needs a model release… A snap shot of a cat.
Forgot the lens used, may be 127mm F3.5….very slow shutter speed I think, @ max aperture setting.
attached photo is scanned 300dpi scanning….I don’t have a photo level scanner, it just a ordinary cheep Canon document scanner ($100) using for document scanning only, no correction added.
Lot of dust too.
I sometime use this combination (instant film / RB) just for fun.
(This is my first time I upload my photo on the internet / I hope it works)

I recently posted a polaroid 665 "fun shot" of my class, but I wouldn't call it a good example of what the film can do, it was just a quick demo. I have some rather more beautiful negs of floral macros shot by the class, with my help, that we will print and maybe I can post some in a week or two. I still have about 10 boxes of poalroid 665 but, as mentioned, it is discontinued.

There will still be some type 55 in the pipes for a while... and I have a 4x5 back for my rb so that I can continue to use that. On the one hand, it's a tremendous waste of expensive film area; on the other hand, you do get tonally beautiful, tack-sharp squares (~72x72mm as I recall) on one of the finest films available, without doing any developing.... With good lenses and the flat sheet film, the rb67 "big square" results on 55 or sheet film truly cross the line into LF, in my opinion. So it just depends what you think it's worth. To me it basically priceless at this point. But still I don't normally shoot it on the rb.

I consider the 4x5 fuji stuff to be too good for proofing; I proof to the smaller stuff or expired polaroid that I can still get my hands on.
