I mixed my first New Cyanotype batch last night and plan to filter it today. I would like to add the Ammonium Dichromate to the batch but only have a 5% solution. 4ml =0.2grams of Ammonium Dichromate (double batch) Can I just add this to the final mix before diluting or must I get the crystals? I also have dry Potassium Dichromate can I substitute that.
I think it best to mention what your mixture was in quantities solids/liquids and if the solutions of
Ammonium Iron(III) Oxalate (NH4)3[Fe(C2O4)3].3H2O 30 g
Potassium Ferricyanide K3[Fe(CN)6] 10 g
are already mixed together and if so what is the final volume you have now.
I wouldn't digress from the formula by using Pot. Dich. (Ammon. D. is more light sensitive).
I mixed a double batch (200ml) and after mixing the two chemicals I had less than 100ml so I would have to add H2O to get 200ml. I figured that my 5% solution of Ammonium Dichromate was just distilled water and the chemical. I needed 0.2gr of Ammonium Dichromate and figured out that 4.0ml of the 5% solution would give me 0.2gr of Ammonium Dichromate so I added it to my mixed solution before I added the distilled H2O. I am assuming that all will be well although I have not tried it yet.
Thanks for you responses and I will check out Cyanomicron II when I get a chance.
