Which model of Rolleiflex is this?

My guess from the photo it might be a model E2 or E3 or a "M-X E-V"

You provide a min. of info -- lots of sites that date/type Rolleis by serial number such as http://www.rolleirepairs.com/models.htm

Knowing the taking lens is helpful also.

I only have this picture to go on. I know it is 'old' it belonged to someone's grandfather and then their father, now I have a chance to buy it, but they know as much about it as I do!

Definitely not an E2 or E3 because it would have a removable WLF. That looks to me like a meterless 3.5C or 3.5E

It will probably be a really nice camera after servicing. Those old cameras can be made good as new.

I agree that it looks like an "E." Sometimes the EVS system makes the camera easier to use. I'd try to acquire it. In fact, I have a 2.8F and a Rolleicord and was actually looking for a 3.5 E to add to my group.

It looks like an E2 (type 1), which did not have the removable WLF. I'm looking at the Collectors Guide to Rollei Cameras, by Arthur Evans.

Looks like an E to me, f/3.5 lens, no meter.

Later than the 1940s, based upon the big focus knob. If the camera has been stored with that cap on for, lo, all these years, there may be fungus between the lens elements which may have etched the glass.

Even more so, because it is in a leather never-ready case.

I bought a New Standard from an estate auction last year; it had spent decades stored in the leather case, in a cardboard box, in an unheated garage. I sent it off to Mark Hansen for repair; it was fine. Maybe I got lucky, I don't know, but I guess storing it in the leather case isn't an automatic fungus magnet.

Yes, it's a 3,5 E (or 3,5C as it was called F&H and in Germany/Europe). You could buy them with or without light meter.

Regarding storage, it depends on where in the U.S. it is. In many areas out west, humidity is measured in single digits, whereas humidity in the southeast is probably the opposite -- just a few digits from 100%.

I've bought a lot of cameras through the years -- more than most and fewer than others -- and fungus and mold are rarely a problem, and these cameras have come from all over the U.S. and even the world.
