This seems a great idea to me. A kind of try before you buy. I know if I hadn't taken a B&W course at a local college, I'd have never started my darkroom. The wife's still got a contract out on the college tutor!
I know the law is funny and it differs from country to country but at the college the darkroom was full of chemicals and wires to enlargers etc and it was quite dark as well. It seemed to operate on the basis that all the students were capable of exercising reasonable care, would not drink the chemicals and were not irresponsible minors. If it was safe enough for the tutor then it was safe enough for the students.
If that was the attitude of a local educational body then it ought to apply to one-man teaching courses.
If there is a God then let him save us from a "tumblers" paradise. I think that is what they label a person in the U.S. trying to have an accident for compensation.
Best of luck. Pity that Colorado is just a bit more than a bus ride away for me but if I ever do get there, can I say that I take all my chemicals with a touch of Scottish spring water.
