Hey guys I just picked up what appears to be a wartime Carl Zeiss Jena 85mm f2 Sonnar lens in Leica m39 mount from a reputable dealer in the United States. However I understand there are a lot of fakes out there and I want to be sure of its authenticity. If it is not authentic I can return it so I'm not too worried. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's defiantly a cool lens but these wartime Zeiss lenses aren't the greatest they ever made. However I tested it on my digital and its very nice. I also shot some T Max with it and it's drying right now. I can't wait to see the results.

Looks like the serial number checks out. It has the small m too. Jupiters have a capital M. I have a Jupiter from the 50s and it is a nice lens.

If you like it, use it. Doesn't really matter if it is fake or not! I really love the Jupiter I have. It isn't as good as the post war Sonnar I used to have in Contax mount (miss that one!) but a wonderful lens.

I hope you would be so kind as to post some images from it. I love Sonnars. Might end up picking one up myself. A Zeiss Sonnar would look good with an M3 attached...

I bought this lens because I also miss my Contax with it's 50mm Sonnar that I regret selling to buy into the Leica screw mount system. I saw this for a good price and jumped on it. It's a lot better than my 90mm Elmar which is really too slow for what I need it for given I shoot a lot at night. I get a extra 2 stops of light with this thing which helps a lot.
