I don’t know exactly how to describe my problem as the manual refers to this mechanism as a “bar” in a “slot.”

essentially, the bar/button that tells the camera that the door is closed is stuck in the depressed position. It’s the recessed button just under the winder that the manual refers to when discussing how to trick the camera into firing the shutter without film.

any tips on fixing this? Apologize in advance if this is in the forum somewhere already... literally don’t know the words to search to find it.

have you tried dry firing the camera?
if it doesn't work, have you tried firing with a film inside?

Can you provide a couple of photos of the 'bar' in question? It might be similar to other mechanisms on other cameras. Usually I would suggest finding a point to grab the bar with a thin screwdriver or such and see it won't pop back out with a little pressure. Little being the important word. Anyway, a photo or two might make the answer obvious to someone.

I thought it'd look something like that.

Often that is just a flat part with a tab formed at the end. And the tab can snag on another part of the frame, an edge of the slot it travels in. Maybe a toothpick, a little up and down motion, a light pull outwards, will make clearer what is holding in.
