Can anyone tell me the difference between gray curve numbers and linearization numbers? I know in the text file of the ink descriptor file they are two seperate things, but in Ron Reeder's pdf for making digi-negs with QTR his process for deriving gray curve values seems very similar to that of linearization. Whats the difference? Do I need to do both, or just one? Anyone that can shed some light on this would be of great help. I've been printing step wedges for quite some time now and would eventually like to get back to making images. I suppose that's the curse of the perfectionist however.
I've been away from QTR for a few months so don't remember the answer to this. You might do better on the QTR Yahoo Group, which is very active: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuadtoneRIP/. Good luck - once you get into QTR you'll find it can do all sorts of cool stuff.

Grey curve numbers must be inverted (or at least they must be processed to derive the output curve in some manner, like that done in the Reeder book) the linearization numbers can be raw input from the densitometer or scanner, but must be input from minimum density to maximum, and this will not directly work for making negatives.
