Hello all,

I recently (finally) got some Pyrocat-HD in the mail. I shot a roll of TMax 100 (120) in a "normal contrast" scene, developed for 16 minutes with I guess extreme minimal agitation (1.5 minutes initially, then 10 seconds every 3 minutes), and printed the results. So far, everything that I had hoped for after reading the numerous threads.

BUT, does anyone have any ball park times for N+/- development using TMax 100 and EMA/semi-stand development? My local college photo lab is closed for the summer, and I no longer have access to a densitometer.....however, I will be enlarging onto VC paper, so densitometric readings might not be the most useful....

My film budget is tight, so if anyone has any experience with this, I would be most grateful for any ballpark figures. It would, at least, be a starting point.

Thanks,
peter

Peter,

Try 20, 30 and 40 minutes for N-1, N, and N+1. This would be for a 1:1:150 dilution at 70F. That should get you into the game.

Sandy

Peter, the agitation technique you have used for this roll would generally be considered "minimal agitation" in terms of stand, semi-stand, minimal or normal agitation. There are a bunch of terms floating around out there with respect to agitation, but I don't have them all floatring around in my head.

Just looked up some notes I lifted from another thread. I think this must be credited to Sandy for his use of terminology, but I didn't write down the arthor. In any event, this is what I use for development terminology. tim

1. Minimal: Agitation initially for about one minute, followed by agitation for about ten seconds every two or three minutes thereafter. Use the standard working solution of your developer, but increase normal time of development by about 50%.

2. Extreme minimal: Agitation initially for about one minute, followed by agitation for ten seconds at the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 point in time of development.

3. Semi-stand: Agitation initially for about one minute, followed by one ten second agitation cycle about 1/2 way through development.

4. Stand: Agitation initially for one minute, and then no more agitation at all.
