Hi

I would really love to try Pyrocat HD and I see B&H sell the dry-mix here:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...kw=_cat%3Aphotography&c3api=2572,113041717267

To make 10 liters of working solution.

Since I am a pretty low-volume guy, I was thinking about mixing this with glycol, to get as much life out of the developer as possible.

Is the stock from A and B 1 liter each (totaling 2 Liters) ?
When using glycol, do I just replace the water for A with glycol?

The instructions at http://www.pyrocat-hd.com/html/mixing.html was a bit hard to follow, since they seem to mention if you make the Pyrocat HD from scratch, not from a package like the one from B&H.

I would strongly suggest you get pre-mixed Pyrocat-HD from whatever source you can, unless you're familiar with and feel comfortable working with toxic chemicals. But, to answer your question... Yes, simply substitute the glycol for the water. Regarding the amount of stock solution prepared, I think it varies based on the kit purchased. I mix it myself so I'm not really sure. I believe that 1L each of A and B is pretty much the standard.

While 1 liter of stock is often "standard", it's different for Pyrocat HD. The 10-liter kit makes up 100ml of stock for each solution, and the 50-liter kit makes 500ml stock each. Each chemical in the kit is individually pre-weighed and packaged. The instruction sheet that comes with the kit is here:

I'm not sure if B&H will ship this kit to Norway, they're a bit funny about shipping some chemicals. I buy my Pyrocat-HD direct from Photographers' Formulary, 50-liter sets pre-mixed in Glycol, but I'm in the US and can see where shipping liquid overseas might not be very attractive.

Ok thanks ....wow 100ml per A and B, that's not very much at all

I will look into it, poweder is usually better than liquids when it comes to shipping, but even then there may be issues.

Thanks for the information (I'll be sure to take precautions when mixing) ^^

Steve,

Thanks for clarifying my comment! I'm so used to mixing 1L each that I always think of that amount as "standard." I often mix 2:2:100 for pt/pd printing. Since I often use 5L tanks and hangers for semi-stand style development with Pyrocat-HD, I need a lot of developer; one of the reasons why I mix it myself from raw chemicals.

As long as the Metabisulphite is relatively fresh Pyrocat HD lasts about 3 years made up with water, no Glycol. With such a small quantity forget using Glycol.

Pyrocat-HD has been my main developer for years. I have mixed it with glycol but only once as I go through Pyrocat-HD so quickly. If you are a more casual developer, then that is a great way to go. Mixing is very easy. Just replace the water with glycol. First dissolve phenidone in a wee bit of isopropyl alcohol. It will go into the glycol much easier. Don't bother mixing up part B with glycol. Just use distilled water. It last indefinitely.
