Pyrocat-HD infos

Hi,
I am testing Tri-X 320 in Pyrocat-HD for VC silver paper printing.
I have two questions for you:
1) The 2:2:100 dilution is more energic than the 1:1:100; but does the 2:2:100 dilution affect film grain and acutance in a different way than the 1:1:100?
2) May I use the Selenium to intensify a Pyrocat-HD stained negative? If so with the same procedure as with the conventional non staining developers?

If there is any difference in grain and acutance between the 1:1:100 and 2:2:100 dilutions it is very, very slight and would require a lot of magnification to verify.

Yes, you can intensify a pyro stained negative with selenium, but if you need to increase contrast a lot I would recommend the bleach/redevelop method of intensification.

Ugo, first, welcome to apug. Hope you enjoy your stay.

As far as acutance goes, the best method I have found with pyrocat is to do minimal agitation. This has resulted in the best negatives I have produced. It is pretty simple. You do a full minute of agitation, followed by 10 seconds of agitation every three minutes. Use a dilute concentration (I've settled on 1:1:150 for slower films, but can't give one for this film, sorry, don't use it) and your times will be on the long side. Results with respect to shadow detail and crisp edges will be worth the effort once you have the times worked out. Best of luck, tim
