OK - I mixed up my first pyrocat and expected it to do what PMK or DiXactol does and change color. - it developed the film ok but never with a change of color - no deep brown or green oxidation ... is this correct??

yes, the pyrocat stain is not very evident, unless you compare it to a non stained negative. Nevertheless print it, you will see the stain does what it is supposed to do.

Adding to what Jorge said, the solution stays a lot cleaner, no where near the oxidation during processing that PMK or ABC does. The stain color is different too. I saw it to be brownish in color vice the green of PMK or ABC.
