I purchased the Focus magic plugin a few years ago after being unhappy with the old Unsharp Mask. Focus magic was a big improvement. Now that PS has its own version of Focus Magic, Smart Sharpen, I'd be interested to know if anyone still buys Focus magic. I think the two are equally powerful and if I'd never purchased Focus magic I'd be perfectly happy with Smart Sharpen. One thing for sure, the old unsharp mask is now a relic.
Its good to be able to sharpen according to intended use. NIK allows sharpening according to intended use...for example, sharpening with intention to print or sharpening for online purposes or basic sharpening. All localized on image, of course, assuming one wants that kind of control...ie not as simplistic as Lightroom tries to be.
