Ps express - editing tiff files

Hi dear all,

I'd like to know if I can upload edited tiff files without losing the quality/size on google drive?
I'm using ps express on my iphone but only the free version and would upgrade if the answer is yes.
The reason why I’m asking is because I edited a jpeg file and the file size dropped from 15Mb to 340kb when I saved it to drive.
As I couldn’t set the quality to 100% due to the free version, I left it on 85% but I was surprised that the size dropped that much. Maybe it was already compressed when I opened it in ps express but if yes then why it’s such a poor quality?
Sorry but I just started this whole ps thing after I decided to scan my negs with a dslr.

Aren't there any preferences on Google Drive where you can specify to store the files as is or compressed?

I have an iPhone, but have not used Google Drive; can you somehow check the pixel dimensions of the file on your phone vs the same file after uploading it and bringing it back down from Google Drive? One of the things I find annoying about the phones is that until very recently they had almost nothing in the way of "file management" functions for the user. They now have a little more, but nothing I get too excited about. On my (Windoze) desktop I can see the pixel dimensions and a bunch of other properties of JPEG and other image files. I noted in the past that on the phone, things like inserting an image file into email would tend to magically downsize the file. Makes one wonder if whatever you're doing results in the upload to Google Drive being reduced in size to "do you a favor" and speed up transfer, etc. I consider it unlikely the file size could drop that much just from JPEG compression, makes me think the actual pixel dimensions have been scaled down.

As one who used early floppy-based computers where we really had to ride herd on resource use, the 'just trust us, it's magic' approach used today is sometimes frustrating and even downright annoying. These days I regularly see updates for apps that are multiple times the size of the entire hard drive on my original Windows box.

I just checked on it but I couldn’t find these kind of possibilities. Will do another try and will see what’s gonna happen if I upload a large file.

So, I checked on a jpeg file again just to be sure and it's hard to say if it's downgrading it before I load it in PS Express but this file of 15Mb after I opened it in PS and didn't even touched it just straight upload it back to drive was 255Kb!
It's a shame because I don't have a laptop just the iphone and now I've to consider buying one just for this action.

I just converted a 15.7MB TIFF to a JPEG file at 85% and the resulting file is 3.2 MB. After applying a Noise>Despeckle filter to the TIFF and then exporting as an 85% JPEG, the resulting file was 2.1MB. So the amount of compression can vary depending on the original, but 255KB is much smaller than I would expect. If the change in file size is greater than what you would get from JPEG compression, alone, then the resolution (pixel dimensions) may be changing, as well. Which makes me think PS Express may have some resizing option selected ? (I'm just guessing.)

Are you using PS Express to upload to Google Drive? If so, look at the settings on <this page> Scroll down to "Resize your photos" and make sure "Original" is selected.

If not uploading from PS Express, what are the exact steps you take to transfer files from the phone to Google Drive?

So, I’ve done what you suggested and indeed I had to select ‘original’. I tried it this time with a 20Mb jpeg and when I wanted to upload it back to drive the size was 585Kb. When I tap ‘open in’ while still in drive the file size already that small.
I’ve the files both tiff and jpeg in drive. I open them in ps express. I then edit them and want to upload them back to drive. Now that the original is selected and the file size is still so small I even more don’t know what steps should be done.
