I understand what it does, however I am never sure if I am using too much or too little. Sometimes I need to displace .5L of air, sometimes a little more. How do I know if I am doing this right? Also, how long do I have between spraying the gas in and putting the cap on the container?
I think Protectan is slightly heavier than air and will settle on the surface of the liquid. Which means you don't have to replace all of the air in the bottle. One or two short squirts is what I usually do, then calmly put the cap on.

With time both gases (Butane from Protectan and air) will mix.
Thus air must be completely substituted by Protectan.
This will be easier with a gas like this heavier than air, but without knowing the volume delivered it remains guess-work.
