Hi Guys- I was wondering if anyone has ever used or heard of anyone using Promaster black and white paper. I was just given some. I have never heard of it....

Patrick

Didn't this question come up in the not-to-distant past?

Promaster used to be a line of filters, lenses and flashes that were made to fit everyone elses cameras. Rumor had it that the lenses were from Sigma and the filters were from Hoya and they were the same comapny anyway.

Know nothing of the paper, however.

I searched and found nothing.

Sigma & Hoya are two different companies. Back in the 70's Hoya also sold lenses under their own name, however they made some huge mistakes with the designs, the Multi-coating was so poorly done, I think they'd tried to cut costs by not coating every air/glass interface, that some of the lenses flared so badly they were useless. The whole range was suddenly dropped, and that was the end of Hoya lenses. They did begin selling lenses again but it was a completely new brand name, and designs.

However Hoya make the glass for most if not all the Japanese lens manufacturers anyway, they blend highly specialist glasses made by Pilkington's in the UK with raw glass to make optical blanks. I'm not sure if it took place but I think Pilkington's were going to be bought/taken over by a Japanese company.
