Weekend Workshops Begin in July!
Our summer series of weekend workshops begins in July and we have an excellent couple of months ahead of us. The workshops kick off with Scott McMahon's two-day introduction to gum bichromate printing. This time students will have the option of printing digital negatives at our studio which opens the class up to digital photographers that want to see their images printed in this painterly alternative process.
The following week, Kevin Martini-Fuller will return to teach The Nude: Light & Form. In this workshop, participants work with clay and charcoal in addition to cameras as they engage the play of light and shadow on the human form.

Keliy AndersonStaley Talk This Friday
We are looking forward to Keliy Anderson-Staley's artist talk this Friday at 7pm at Project Basho. We exhibited two of her tintype portraits earlier this year as part of ONWARD '11 and are excited to hear her speak in detail about her ongoing project. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students and Friends of Project Basho.
In addition to using conventional photographic technologies, Keliy has been making portraits using the 19th-century wet plate collodion process. This involves hand-coating an aluminum sheet or pane of glass before sensitizing, exposing, and processing the plate. The result is a unique, non-reproducible object with a distinct aesthetic quality that Keliy uses to make striking and evocative portraits. Keliy will return to Project Basho in May 2012 to teach a two-day workshop on this process.
Her ongoing series Imagined Family Heirlooms combines original tintypes with found letters, pictures, and ephemera along with mementos from her relatives. Together, her installations create imaginary connections that bring to light the rootless nature of many American identities.

Project Basho is actively seeking experienced instructors to teach a variety of photography classes and workshops. Applicants must have previous teaching experience, excellent communication and organizational skills, a strong understanding of technical and formal photography issues as well as mastery in their particular area of expertise. A degree in photography is preferred but not required.
Additionally, we accept applications for volunteer studio monitor positions on a rolling basis. Monitors assist staff in managing facilities and in administrative tasks. This is not a paid position but volunteers have the benefit of having access to our facilities and of taking classes and workshops through work exchange.
