Fall Schedule Arriving

Summer is officially upon us which means our current semester of classes and workshops is well under way and an all new schedule of fall semester offerings will be available shortly. Our educational program has been growing steadily from humble beginnings only a few years ago and we are very proud to have had 200 students pass through our doors in 2010 alone. As we move forward in the year, we are continually searching for new instructors to teach exciting weekend workshops and are designing more classes to satisfy the diverse interests of our photographic community.

In just a few weeks we will be rolling out our fall semester schedule and are very excited about the wide array of classes and workshops we will be running. Shelby Lee Adams, recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, will be returning to Project Basho in November to teach his popular workshop on Environmental Portraiture. Instructor Bill Schwab will also return, this time to teach Mobile Wet Plate, an intermediate-level wet plate collodion workshop that will take participants outdoors where they will learn how to prepare and process plates in the field using a mobile darkroom.

Other notable instructors visiting our studio include Craig Barber, Dead Link Removed, and Sandy King. We are, of course, continuing to provide our popular series of 1-day and semester-long classes as well. Our full fall schedule will be published in just a few weeks and we will be sure to keep you posted.

Friends of Project Basho 2010

Join us this Friday, June 25 from 6 - 8 pm for the opening reception of Friends of Project Basho 2010. This annual exhibition showcases the output of the diverse community of artists that is actively engaged in photographic practices at our studio. This year's exhibition features work by our students, instructors, members, volunteers, and staff.

Project Basho was founded with the mission of creating a vibrant culture surrounding photography and of fostering dialogue within our community. Our goals have been very simple: to learn, create, and share photography in a communal environment. This exhibition is a chance to celebrate the diverse viewpoints and styles that converge in our small studio. Over the course of the year, we have welcomed numerous new students, invited many visiting artists, and have been assisted by a growing team of dedicated monitors and interns, now sixteen strong. We continue to be encouraged by the enthusiasm and engagement in photographic arts that we observe on a daily basis and hope you will join us this Friday for a snapshot of the work being created in and around

New Basho Tote Bag

We are currently redesigning and improving the latest incarnation of the Project Basho tote bag which you can expect to hit the streets sometime in late summer. Our new design will feature a small internal pocket to keep things organized along with reinforced nylon handles. It is a great size for carrying your negatives and photo paper or just for hauling groceries. You will find the tote bag on sale in our studio store along with our usual display of photo books, limited edition portfolios, and inkjet paper.
