Summer Is Just Around the Bend

This summer, we have substantially expanded our photography education program to include new class formats to accommodate students with various schedules as well as more intermediate-level courses.

We are pleased to introduce our new photography tutorials. These 3-hour-long primers will focus in on discreet topics and are perfect for students that want to build specific skills. We begin our tutorial series with an introduction to Digital SLR Basics and will expand to many other topics as the summer progresses!

We are also offering a new 5-week course, Digital Photography I, which is perfect for students seeking an introduction to Digital SLR cameras and basic adjustments in Lightroom but who cannot commit to the full-semester Photographic Vision Digital I course. This class is offered on Saturday afternoons as well as in the form of a week-long intensive.

In addition to our new classes, we will be inviting many visiting teaching artists to lead weekend workshops. We are happy to host Ed Kashi, whose award-winning images for National Geographic are familiar to many, to lead a two-day workshop on Documentary Storytelling. For photographers in the earlier stages of developing a photographic series, we are happy to offer The Personal Project, taught by Mary Beth Meehan, whose image, Ashleigh's Bouquet, won a Juror Award in ONWARD '11.

To see a full listing of our new summer schedule, visit our classes and workshops page.

Tell a Friend, Earn 25 Bucks!

We are happy to roll out a new reward program that will save you money on class and workshop fees in exchange for referring new students to Project Basho! We are always looking for new ways to get people in the door and interested in photography and this is our way to thank you for your role in spreading the word.

Here's how it works. If you tell a friend, family member, or co-worker about your experience at Project Basho and they mention your name when registering for a class or workshop, we will send you a $25 dollar credit to be applied to any of our educational offerings. There is no limit to how much credit you can accumulate, and it can be used all at once or for several courses. It's that simple. The more people you refer, the more you earn!

ONWARD '11 Japan Opens in May

Though ONWARD ' 11 is no longer on our gallery walls, the show goes on elsewhere! The entire exhibition of 70 works will be exhibited in Ricoh's photo gallery RING CUBE from May 4th – 22nd with an opening reception on May 9th.

We are proud to be able to share this exceptional collection of work with the world and bring greater exposure to this group of 63 emerging artists. ONWARD was created to widen the bottleneck between the large pool of talented photographers making new and exciting work and the relatively closed-off world of fine-art galleries. By making ONWARD '11 a traveling exhibition, we have greatly expanded our audience and have added to a discourse about photography that crosses oceans.
