Hi friends,
I bought a used rental Profoto twin head for $800 CAD and one of the flash tubes is burned out and seems to be welded into the unit.
Must I send this into Profoto, or is it possible for a regular person to disassemble and repair these heads?

Maybe welded wasn't the right word. The head has one genuine Profoto tube. The bulb that has burned out looks like an unbranded one. I suspect that when the unbranded tube blew, it fused itself into the connectors. I'm going to ask Vistek if they tried to get it repaired by Profoto. Maybe Profoto said "do it yerself" because of the unbranded tube.

The worst thing that could happen if you were to contact the manufacturer is that they ignore your inquiry. Go ahead and contact them.

The electrodes on arc/flash tubes don't lend themselves to being soldered. I would suspect there is either a socket, a screw terminal connection or a spot weld. Grab a screwdriver, open her up and take a look.

If one of the 'heads' is burning through flash tubes there may be something wrong with it. More likely there was a fault in the power pack used with the head.
