Profiling software suggestions?

Hello,

I'm thinking about doing my own profiles for my scanner, printer, and digital camera. Currently I use a Monaco XR with the pro software for my monitor. My other available gear is a desktop & laptop, Epson 4990, Canon digital cam, and Epson R2400 and Photoshop.

I was reading through Profile Prism's website (LINK) and it seems I meet the requirements to use their software. My question is, what is your opinion of this software?

Will it allow me to make a decent printer profile, and also profile my scanner using their target, and also film targets for Fuji films?

I was always under the impression I would need some sort of special meter to measure the targets, but I'm guessing this software just uses my scanner. How will this quality compare to getting a profile made by someone like inkjet art?

Sorry if I'm not completely clear about everything, I'm still trying to learn a bit about the topic.

You may find some debate about the quality of a scanner based profile, but at the end of the day it will not be as good over a wide range of paper as a spectro based profile. The math involved in building the profile is probably very sound in Profile Prism, but the measurement aspect is not up to the job. That said for the $70 it should give you a very good idea of what paper can do, and then you could get a better profile made. PP can also help you find the correct printer driver settings to make sure that your purchased profile will be as good as it can be.
