I have tried it twice, tonight was the second, and the results are not what I have been lead to believe.

1. First time i did it, i did it with a damaged roll of kodak gold 200 that was stuck in a camera that died on me. Cut a piece off, and ten minutes was not enough processing, did see a corner of 1 frame appear.

2. Tonight i did the full 1 hour semi stand treatment. 1 roll was completely fried, although it had been put through a camera, the only part of the negative that had any changes to it was the exposed portion of the leader, everything else was clear except for the fuji markings.

Second full roll xperia 400, most frames were developed but extremely dark with a brown tint that i have only seen in 40-60 year old color negatives.

Am i not going long enough, or is a 20 second agitation session every 20 minutes not enough

for me, I would not use xtol for this, and definitely would not use xtol stand or semi stand development for this.
you need something more aggressive, and you need to agitate your film more.
I regularly develop c41 and e6 film in black and white chemistry. ... and the closest thing to xtol I ever use is caffenol C and that's only because
of the Vit c... xtol ( for me at least ) has had the habit of producing thin, under developed terrible negatives no matter how the film was exposed, and no matter how aggressive I agitated ( even stock developer ). if you have your heart set on using xtol you might consider
adding something a bit more aggressive INTO your xtol, like rodinal or even a print developer like dektol or ansco 130. when I "crossprocess" the color films I use the caffenol c I mentioned and I add about 15-20cc of stock dektol or ansco 130 into it and develop it like you would a regular roll of film 1 min + 10S/60S agitation for about 8-10 minutes depending on how the film was exposed. I also split process color films using both that print developer ( dilute 1:10 ) agitated normally ( 1 + 10/1 ) for the first 5 minutes then I put the film in the caffenol C I described above and agitate it continuously for 5 minutes...
YMMV
good luck !
