I mixed up a batch this afternoon and used it right away but got prints that were fogged. Is there a problem with light affecting the chemical while in the bottle (I had the bottle sitting on my desk for about 2 weeks) or while mixing it, as I did this in my kitchen near a window. I added a drop of Dichromate to one exposure and got a really constrasty print.

no expert on this at all Wayne, but seems like I recall that FAO wants to age at least 24 hours before using. Last batch I made up, about 6 weeks ago, I waited almost 24 hours to the minute before using, and it did work OK, but seems like it is much happier now that it is more 'mature'. Hopefull one of the more seasoned alt printers will drop by and give you better info than I can. Good Luck..and have fun.

Wayne, where did you get your FAO from? I got some in a white bottle, and it fogs every time. I suspect light exposure or something like it.

I got mine form Bostick & Sullivan, in a white bottle. It seems to work with some ammonium dichromate in it, otherwise it fogs.

That's where I got mine from! I complained about it but got no answer. It worked better when I added dichromate, but it kept deteriorating in solution, and in the end the dichromate couldn't compensate. I'm gonna throw away the rest and order FAO from someone else.

I'll call Kevin tomorrow and ask him what's up. I have read that the chemical is pretty stable untill you mix it.
