Hello everybody, I recently noticed something strange: I printed some photographs and I saw some bright lines on them. They are parallel and close to the edges of the frames, usually 3 of them and at most 1 on each edge. At first, I thought there was something wrong with the enlarger, but I also noticed these lines on a Velvia I shot recently. This problem is not persistent. Only 2 films have this problem. I exclude light leaks as I can't see something bad at the perforated part of the film and the seals where replaced recently. I suspect an internal reflection, but from what? Any guesses?

The shutter might be the culprit. I had a similar problem with one Praktica. Thes stripes occurred in shots taken at shutter speeds faster than the sync speed due to irregular shutter curtain motion.

I think that if the problem included the curtain (at least the way it moves) I would only get vertical and not horizontal lines. Right?

I got it wrong and you're perfectly right. Of course, your OM-10 has a shutter that runs horizontally. I confused the OM-10 with the OM-2000, which has a vertical shutter. Good luck solving this mystery.

Any chance you could provide a visual example?

I'm afraid not  I don't have a scaner. But these lines are not solid. They just blend with the rest of the frame. And the funny thing is that they appeared on a roll of film, then they reappeared after two rolls of film! They are not even persistent! Anyway, they are very close to the edges and it's not such a big problem, but I'd just like to know why.

Hi, can you see the lines on the negatives, or just in the prints?

Jon

I can't see them on the negatives, but I can see them (if you know what to look for) on the positives (the velvia I mentioned before). The negatives don't have as much contrast, so they probably hide there...

Hi, sometimes the bright edge of a filed-out negative carrier will reflect into the picture, but not seeing your negatives/contact sheets it is hard to say.

Jon

The filed out negative carrier was my first thought and I wasn't worried. It doesn't explain their existence on the slides though. Anyway, it seems that it's hard to find the reason. Thanks anyway.

Yes!!!! I had problems using Kodak's EasyShare software. Hence, I decided to use another editing program. I usually use Photoshop Elements or Iphotos.
