Wondering if anyone can help, as I am on a road trip and the one 35mm slr I brought is giving me grief.

I brought a minolta 800, which shoots fine when empty. But when loaded the shutter won't release. I tried loading a second roll of film but the problem persists in all shooting modes.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Answered my own question with a little web research which I will repost here:

The Maxxum/Dynax cameras have a feature which prevents the camera from firing when the AF is not working. This is a feature which must be turned off when using a manual focus lens, otherwise the the shutter won't fire.

To turn it off, hold the portrait button (on the left side beside the mode button) and the AEL button while sliding the camera from lock to on.
