Problem with Glycin?

I have a reasonably large quantity of Glycin as I have been using it with D130. I have just started trying Fx2 and I have found that the Glycin keeps coming out of the stock solution. A quick shake gets it back but is this normal? I hadn't noticed any problem with D130 but then I'm using it straight away.

Glycin takes some effort to fully mix into solution. Are you sure you stirred the chemical enough?

When can I order Glycin? I have several Formulas that I would like to try that call for the chemical.

Forgot to mention... I've only used it in Ansco 130 and have not seen that problem... sorry.

If you're mixing FX-2 and can't get the glycin to dissolve
( which usually only takes time )
add a little bit of the 7 1/2 grams of P Carb destined for the B bath.

Raising the pH a little will do the trick, with no ill effects.

FX2 is so easy to make up ( in small quantity ) as a single solution that I make it up when I need it, and don't worry over the 2 bath.

As a single bath, add the Carbonate last, a little at a time,
and the glycin dissolves just like ( SNAP ! that !

Thanks, I will try the carbonate. Sounds about right as there is never a problem with D130..... Apug comes through again!

Did you use the 91% isopropyl alcohol in the A Solution? It is used to keep the glycin in solution.

Does dissolving the Glycin in alcohol prolong the shelf life??..Evan Clarke

No. Alcohol is sometimes used in developer concentrates to keep the developing agents in solution.

Good question. The MSDS that I have says that glycin is only sparingly soluble in water and the common solvents. But, it's the only reason that I can think of for Crawley to have specified it in the formula. Certainly, the small amount of Metol doesn't require it. Glycin is soluble in alkaline solutions but adding an alkali to the A solution would certainly cut down on the shelf life.
