can anyone direct me to a link that will assist me in the proper way to unistall and reinstall cs3?

for some strange reason this morning i got a message saying that my liscense was not working properly and i need to unistall and reinstall.

since this program is on two computers i thought i would get in touch with adobe to be sure i did things the right way to avoid issues in the future.
after being transfered 4 times i was then told it would cost be 39.95 to get any help to correct this problem.

Ticked me off, and i told them this was crazy!

anyway, i have been trying to find a tutorial that would cover what i need to do, as i am under the impression it is more involved than just removing from the control panel. Or, perhaps , i am wrong.
thanks,
ann

I had the same issue and Adobe told me the same thing. I did a restore form before the problem occurred and it went away. I have not installed any updates as I think this is where the issue occurred. I also vowed to think 2 or 3 times before sending my money to Adobe.

The proper way to uninstall is to deactivate the license -- which is found under Help -- (which won't work for you or me) and reinstall using, i believe, the number generated from the deactivation. If you simply go through the general uninstall and reinstall the activation will not work as the app will think its already activated on another computer. You are supposed to be able to instal CS2,3 or 4 on upto 2 computers. I have mine installed twice on one machine (winxp32 and winxp64) shortly after the second install the license was deemed 'bad' on the second install (this was after downloading the updates).

A search of the web was confusing and time intensive so I just did a restore and have moved on. I am crossing my fingers that there will be viable alternatives to Adobe and MSFT in the next couple years and I can remove myself from both.

Sorry I cannot be of much help.

Ann,

There used to be an uninstall utility for CS3 listed on the Adobe site. If I can find the link I'll post it.

$39.00 my eye. Adobe has really lost all sense of customer service.

Here is the link I was referring to. It is a CS3Clean script for the pre-release version of CS3. I would set a Windows restore point if you plan to try it. Also read the instructions completely to avoid any snafus.

thanks,
i wasn't very nice when they told me the cost.
basically i thought i would have to deactive the program but didn't know where to do that, etc.

i like jd tried to google a bit to figure out what i needed to do.
not much information.
it is sad, a high price piece of software and little support.

just as an fyi, and because i am ranting.

i had a small problem with a stitching software program that i like. big cost of 49 dollars and got outstanding help when an update created a small error.

I suppose adobe feels they are special

thanks all

i will buy the next round of drinks. lol

just an update for all you kind people

as i couldn't open photoshop i couldn't deactivate, so i decided to try uninstall.

when i went into the control panel to do so, a message came up and asked if i wanted to repair or reinstall theprogram. when i said yes, it went about doing something for about 15 minutes and now all is well.

I really understand the need to protect their product, but it is very sad when one has a registered, paid for program that they ask for money to relay information that would have taken less than a few minutes to handle.

the funnest thing, i rarely use cs3 and infact even cs2; however, since it is almost impossible to update 2 to newer cameras cs3 comes in handy for raw files.

Since they changed the tools around so much in 3 it rarely is used these days, and heaven forbid 4.

thanks again for all your support.
