I'm having trouble with my new Kiev 88CM light meter. I loaded the meter with three duracell 303/357 1.5v batteries. The meter worked for the first metering but then wouldn't turn back on. After a while the red dots would show up again, but then wouldn't work for a period of time. I'm thinking the combined voltage is off (1.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 4.5)

Has anyone had this problem, and what's the fix?

I'm having to lug my other meter with me in the meantime.

Thanks for any help.

Bob, you are a life saver. I never realized that site existed. The conversion kit is for the older type meter however. I'm think it might not work for this particular one. I have the TTL meter (not the spot one) with the red button on the outside and the two red dots thru the viewfinder.

Regards

If it had smaller batteries in, it is a more modern one, the originals had just one battery, bit like a stubby AA,and thats what the adaptor is for

Have you tried 3 new batteries. Perhaps one of the three was weak from the start. Otherwise I'd think those silver cells would be perfect for that meter.
The absence of signals with button 44 depressed is indicative of the necessity of replacement of the power supply source

Try LR44 batteries. The one you have in there are watch batteries and probably have different power curves. I use LR 44s in my Kiev finders with no problems.

I use LR44s in my Kiev prism. It usually gives a slightly overexposed reading, though.
