Problem canon eos 1000Fn. film rewind?

I have a canon eos 1000Fn and when trying to load film it just rewinds the leader stright back into the cannister.
I originally loaded a film which jammed, so i had to manually take it out as the battery died. I thought originally that the camera still thought there was a roll in there, but it did this to two films i tried to load.

Does anyone have any experience with this phenomenon? The camera didint have a lens on when i was loading the film, not sure if that makes a difference.

As far as I remember from a friend who owned such a camera, unlike in other 135 cameras, in the Canon 1000 SLRs, when you put a 135 cartridge into it, and then when you close the back the whole roll of film will be spooled on the receiving spool. Then, each time after you shoot, the image just taken is rewound back into the cartridge. This way, if you accidentaly open the camera in the middle of the film, all pictures already taken are saved inside the cartridge.

I have a similar camera (eos 300) which does the same - spool then rewind into the cannister. However, when loading film it sucks it stright back into the cannister which is quite inconvenient

Some things you could try...

Remove the battery and lens for a few hours/days.
If your body has a reset button, hold it in for a few seconds.
Try the same with the mid-roll rewind button.
Load a roll of film that has already been rewound to further confuse the camera.

You never know what's going to work.

from memory you need to turn the camera off - take the lens off - turn the mode dial onto battery check and hold it for a couple of seconds, and then put the lens back on - this should reset the camera

It should now load correctly...It's been a while, but I seem to remember this was buried somewhere in the instruction book..

Hey there!! I guess I joined the party a bit to late. But anyway, I had a similar problem. For me it was solved by loading the film with the lense off the camera. Hope it helps
