UPDATE: I figured out the problem! Sorry!! I was not clicking on Layout, where I then discovered the subsection items that brought me to my familiar R2880 config controls.

Hi,

I just updated my workstation to a Mac Mini running Lion 10.7.4. (8 Gigs RAM! yay!)

I have an Epson R2880 printer and when I plugged in the USB I got a software update message and followed instructions to install whatever Epson automatically sends to Lion when the USB is plugged in. I'm guessing it was the software/drivers, right? It was a fairly large download of several megabytes.

Anyway, in the meantime, I also installed Lightroom 4 to start working on my photos.

I noticed that Lightroom 4 has a Print module, so I clicked on that, expecting to be able to access the whole gamut of printer configurations and controls for the R2880 that I was used to using previously when I had it connected to an old PC and printing via Photoshop.

Instead, I seem to be getting a severely limited set of printing configurations that are within Lightroom's print module. For example, I cannot adjust the platen gap, I cannot seem to adjust the different quality print levels. The test prints I did from within Lightroom came out with banding and the prints were coming out fairly quickly, apparently because I had no way to set the quality print level like I used to before.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lightroom's simplified print controls, but I sorely miss the ability to control all aspects of Epsons' printer as I did on my previous system.

Am I missing something here? Did I not download what I was supposed to download from Epson?

Please advise. Thanks!

Robert.

I'm not familiar with Lightroom but go to your hard drive to see if your printer is listed. If not you may have to install the printer software and driver. If Lightroom is similar to PS you should be able to select the type of paper in "print settings". Also check "page setup" to see if your printer is listed. If you haven't used the printer for a while it may need to have the cleaning mode run. If you were printing on plain paper i might explain the banding and rapid printing time.

I'm far from a computer maven but those are easy to check. There are others who frequent this site who are much more computer knowledgeable than me and will have other thoughts on your problem.

After resolving the print configuration problem (it was an option in the print settings tab that I forgot to explore), I solved the banding problem. It was a blocked nozzle head. Did a full manual cleaning of the nozzles and the test pattern came out beautifully. I'm lucky because the printer had been off for several months. Anyway, it sucked a bunch of ink in the cleaning process and now I need to buy some more cartridges of course.

Thanks.
