Printing masks

Can someone point me to a tutorial for making coloured dodging and burning masks in photoshop(elements for me) or better yet, Capture NX2, then printing on a transparency with an inkjet, and using as a sandwich with a neg on my enlarger? That's a mouthful, but those who know will understand! Posted in APUG but was advised this forum might be more useful.

This is one of those questions that I've seen raised periodically in various places, but I've yet to see anyone really doing it. Maybe there is, but I think that once you're considering issues of registration and trying to avoid getting raster patterns on the print from the enlarged mask, most people going down this path end up making digital negatives for contact printing or using analogue masking techniques.

Thanks David. Question was asked out of curiosity as I too have seen references to the technique. I suspect your assessment is correct.

This inkjet mask is an upgrade from a old technique called contour mapping.
diffusion material would be cut out in patterns that matched the dark areas of the final print. If more dodge was needed more layers of diffusion would be layed on top. Print exposure would be for highlights therefore eliminating any burn.
Nowadays , some photographers are laying down tone on clear backlight material using their inkjet machine and making masks to size of the negative.To do the same thing.
