I currently use an Epson 2200 for colour printing, and I had been planning to buy an Epson 1280 to convert to B+W using MIS inks. I've done a lot of checking around, and actually bought a used 1280 on Ebay, which turned out to be a dud. Fortunately, the seller refunded my $$
I've priced out new 1280's, but find that for an older generation printer, prices are still around $400 CDN with the Epson rebate. Now I'm toying with one of the new HP9180's. They list for $799CDN, but are obviously a much more technically advanced printer that can print Colour and B+W. Has anyone had a chance to use one of these yet?

You may be down on buying another used 1280, but I've got one I purchased to make digital negatives and have run 1 color ink cartridge through it before I figured out how to fix my 2200 so it's just sitting on in my studio. If you'd be interested in a (virtually) brand new 1280 (with guarantee) PM me or send me an email.

Why not buy a new printer for color and use the 2200 for B/W prints?

I like my HP 8750, the B&W output is quite neutral, several photographers that I know didn't believe me that it was inkjet when I showed them prints out of it. The color outputis pretty good, what little color I've printed. I'm trying to source different inksets, as HP prices on the gray carts are nutty, though I guess the cost of printing isn't crazy, but I'm cheap, and on a hell of a budget right now. If you can still find the 8750 at staples, they were clearancing them out at 299, not bad for a 13x19 printer, really.
