The late David Prifti's work is on view at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA now through March 2nd, with an opening reception on January 23rd, 7 to 8:30pm.
As some of you may know, Prifti was an APUG member and an extraordinarily good wet plate photographer who died far too young at the age of 50 just over two years ago. He also worked with liquid emulsions on all manner of materials. He's been described by his colleagues as a force of nature, and he was a generous teacher. The Griffin has recreated the look of his studio (I was fortunate to have met him, and was able to visit his studio a few years before he died), and though the space is larger at the museum giving each piece a little more breathing room, his presence can be felt. It's a wonderful show, and the Griffin has done a great job honoring such a gifted artist by bringing so much of his work into public view.
If you are in the Boston area, it would be well worth your time to stop in.
